A Visit with Cheyanne

Haley enjoyed many hospital visits with her little friend, Cheyanne, and her mom, Nicole.  Though now a year old, Cheyanne was still quite tiny and immobile, due to her many medical complications.  She was the perfect friend for Haley – quiet, gentle, and a baby.  Nicole would simply place Cheyanne on Haley’s bed, while Haley sat, propped up by the adjustable bed back, her weakened arm around Cheyanne for support.  Cheyanne had a bit of fuzzy hair that Haley was content to softly rub, and the two would sit that way for as long as possible, until inevitably, Cheyanne would begin to cough and sputter.  Her coughing fits often ended with a bit of spit up – in Cheyanne’s case, with what she was fed by feeding tube, the ejected liquid was a light green – like a Tinkerbell green, and it did not panic Haley in the least.  There they’d sit, neither able to move much and neither bothered by being soaked in spit up, with Haley continuing to rub the little head and repeating softly, “Poor Cheyanne.”  Those two girls were bonded in the most beautiful way.
